The reciter: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted, in the context of the hadiths in the chapter on the prohibition of arrogance and self-admiration: "And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah the Mighty and Majestic said: Majesty is My robe and pride is My garment. Whoever contests Me with either of them, I will torment him.
Narrated by Muslim.
And from Salama ibn al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A man shall remain exalting himself until he is written among the tyrants, so that he suffers from their afflictions.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2000Da'if (Darussalam)
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, who said: It is a good hadith"

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*, in the chapter on the prohibition of arrogance and self-admiration, regarding the evidence he presented for its prohibition and that it is among the major sins: From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
Allah the Mighty and Majestic said: Majesty is My robe and pride is My garment. Whoever contests Me with either of them, I will torment him.
: This is one of the qudsi hadiths that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) narrates from Allah, and it is not in the rank of the Qur'an. The Qur'an has rulings specific to it:
Among them is that it is a miracle for humanity in that they cannot produce its like, or ten chapters of it, or one chapter, or a report of its like.
And that it is not permissible for one in a state of major ritual impurity to recite the Qur'an.
And that the prayer is valid if one recites from the Qur'an, indeed the recitation of al-Fatihah is obligatory.
As for the qudsi hadiths, they are not so.
Then, the Qur'an is preserved; nothing is added to it or subtracted from it, it is not transmitted by meaning, and there is nothing weak in it. As for the qudsi hadiths, they are transmitted by meaning, and there are weak hadiths among them, and there are hadiths fabricated against the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that are not authentic, and there are many of them.
So the important point is that it is not in the rank of the Qur'an, except that it is said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) narrates it from his Lord. So Allah the Exalted says:
Majesty is My robe and pride is My garment.
: And this is one of the hadiths that are passed on as they came from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and one does not address its meaning by distortion or asking how, but rather it is said: Thus Allah the Exalted said in what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated from Him. So whoever contests Allah in His majesty and wants to take authority like the authority of Allah, or contests Allah in His pride and is arrogant toward the servants of Allah, then Allah will torment him. He will torment him for what he did and for contesting Allah the Exalted in what is specific to Him.
And as for the last hadith in this chapter, which is: That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) warned, warned the person against admiring himself, so he will not cease to rise and magnify himself until he is recorded among the tyrants, and he will be afflicted with what afflicted them. And the tyrants, may Allah protect us, if there were no punishment for them except the saying of Allah Blessed and Exalted is He:
Thus Allah seals the heart of every arrogant tyrant.
and may Allah protect us, that the tyrant has his heart sealed so that good does not reach him and he does not cease from evil.
And the summary of this chapter is that it revolves around two things:
The first: The prohibition of arrogance and that it is among the major sins.
And the second: The prohibition of self-admiration, a person's admiration of himself, for it is also among the forbidden things, and it may be a cause for the nullification of the deed if a person admires his worship, or his recitation of the Qur'an, or something else; perhaps his reward will be nullified and he will not know. And success is from Allah.
