Obstacles to Commitment

Fatwa No. ( 14833 )
Q: I previously sent a question to your eminence, and may Allah reward you with good for your sincere concern for Islam and Muslims. My first statement was that I committed myself to the truth after I had been persistent in sins, but I faced obstacles in this commitment. I found that the first person standing in my way was my father, who was supposed to be the first to help me stay away from sins. However, my father does not like my state, whether I am committed to the truth or engaged in sins. I said to him: What do you want me to do if this does not please you? He said to me: Shave your beard and never mix with the brothers who are in our country... Why, Father, is that? He said: This society we live in is repelled by them
and is not pleased with them. I said: We have no need for the society; we hope for nothing but the Hereafter, in which there is every honor for every believing servant, and we want nothing from this world except living in what pleases Allah. He said: My son, they are suspicious. I see that you are on the right and they are on the right, but the society is not pleased with them. I do not prevent you from sitting in the mosque next to us, but the beard is the most important thing, and then do not go to their lessons in knowledge and do not mix with them. And if you spend your whole life in the mosque next to us, I will never object, on the condition that you shave your beard. Then take your religious and school books and sit in the mosque next to us, and do not leave it ever, and I will be pleased with you in this state. And if you are in this state, I will never be pleased with you. I said to him: I am satisfied with what the society imposes on me. He said: It is a disgrace regarding your brothers. Knowing that my brothers, I did everything in my power to make them among the worshippers, but they refused. How can this be a disgrace regarding them if they are negligent in obeying Allah and do not turn to the mosques ever? And I chose between obeying my father and obeying the Messenger, and I said: There is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator . And I said: Give me a respite of fifteen days to inquire about the matter. Even though I know that it is not obligatory to obey a created being in disobedience to the Creator. I hope your eminence will inform us.
A: We praise Allah who guided you, and we ask Him for you steadfastness in the religion and good uprightness, for He is the All-Hearing, the Responsive. And you must be dutiful to your parents and treat them with good treatment, not raising your voice at them, and trying to serve them in what they need. As for what your father orders you to do regarding shaving your beard, it is not permissible for you to do so; because of the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan an-Nasa'i 15Sahih (Darussalam) agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, and because of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan an-Nasa'i 4206Sahih (Darussalam) agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. As for your father's fear for you regarding the talk of people and their contempt for you if you commit to the religion and sit with the righteous, inform him that Allah made this religion a trial for people, so that whoever is patient and perseveres may succeed with the pleasure of Allah and His Paradise. The noblest of creation, their master, and the most beloved to Allah, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), was harmed; they accused him of madness and sorcery, they put the ropes of a camel on him, they pelted him with stones, they beat his Companions and tortured some of them, and some of them died under the torture. They were patient in the religion of Allah, and every day a new person entered Islam, until the Muslims became strong and the religion of Allah spread, and Allah honored us with this religion. And so in this time when the religion has become strange, and the religious have become pursued and scattered, with all accusations attached to them, by their patience and commitment to this religion and their perseverance in the face of harm, mockery, and ridicule, Allah will honor them
with this religion. So every day we see someone who commits to this religion, and returns to it from the great and the small of the people. Allah the Exalted said:[Hud 11:49], and Allah the Exalted said: [Ali 'Imran 3:200]. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.

Trim the mustache and let the beard grow.

على المرء المسلم السمع والطاعة فيما أحب وكره، إلا أن يؤمر بمعصية، فإذا أُمر بمعصية فلا سمع ولا طاعةwith this religion. So every day we see someone who commits to this religion, and returns to it from the great and the small of the people. Allah the Exalted said:
So be patient; indeed, the [best] outcome is for the righteous.
