Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 6976 )
Praise be to Allah alone, and may peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad, his family, and his Companions. The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed the inquiry submitted to His Eminence the General President from: 'Abd al-Mحسن ibn 'Abd Allah al-Shaykh , registered with the Research Department under number (773) on 29/3/1404 AH. The text of the inquiry is as follows: We received a letter from the Branch Manager of Religious Affairs for the Armed Forces in al-Ta'if , number (144), dated 6/3/1404 AH, in which he asks about the permissibility of killing cats by poison or any other pesticides , especially if they are harmful or cause the transmission of certain diseases, as is the case with those found in the housing of the staff of the base air force clinics in al-Ta'if . We hope you will provide us with the Islamic ruling on this matter. May Allah guide you.
And it answered as follows: There is no harm in killing cats if they are harmful, or if they have harmful diseases,
if they cannot be disposed of by means other than killing. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
