What is the ruling on buying cats, selling them, and keeping them in the house?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on buying cats, and what is the ruling on keeping them in the house?

Answer:
Answer: Keeping them in the house is permissible. They are among those who roam about you, as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said. One may even perform wudu with the water remaining in the vessel from which they have drunk, because their saliva is pure. One may also eat from what they have eaten. This is a concession for the people regarding cats, which mix with them even if they do not like it; they climb over walls and come upon them by force. Therefore, there is no harm in keeping cats. However, selling cats is forbidden, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited the price of the cat, which is the female cat, and the price of the dog. Thus, it is forbidden; cats and dogs are not to be sold.
