Q 3: What is the ruling on sitting with one who does not maintain prayer?
A 3: One who sits with one who does not maintain prayer in order to advise him, command him to prayer and to what is right in general, and forbid him from what is wrong, hoping that Allah will guide him and his affairs will be set right, has done well and fulfilled his duty of advising, enjoining good, and forbidding evil. However, one who sits with him merely for companionship and amusement, or solely for worldly interests, has done wrong and sinned.Sahih al-Bukhari 2101 narrated by al-Bukhari . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

The example of a good companion (who sits with you) in comparison with a bad one, is like that of the musk seller and the blacksmith's bellows (or furnace); from the first you would either buy musk or enjoy its good smell while the bellows would either burn your clothes or your house, or you get a bad nasty smell thereof.
