I vowed that if Allah grants me a son, I will marry him off when he reaches fifteen years of age

Fatwa No. ( 20718 )
Q: Since I got married, I have only had daughters, and I vowed that if Allah grants me a son, I will marry him off when he reaches fifteen years of age, and there is doubt in this because I did not confirm whether I said fifteen years or seventeen years, and I do not remember which of the two dates I vowed. Since my son has only a month and a half left before he enters his fifteenth year, and since I do not
own anything from the trappings of this world, neither little nor much, knowing that I am a housewife, not educated and not employed, and my husband’s salary is small, and the debts upon us are accumulating, and my husband’s salary is the amount of (2000) two thousand riyals, and on top of that our family is large, consisting of ten people, and Allah knows the state and what we are in, and yet if it were found, my husband is refusing the principle of his marriage at this age. I ask you to issue a fatwa for me

A: If you are unable to fulfill your vow due to the inability to bear the costs of marriage if he reaches seventeen years of age; because this age is the one you are certain of regarding your vow, then you are released from your vow by paying the expiation for an oath, and there is no sin upon you in that. The expiation for an oath is: feeding ten poor people, each poor person receiving one and a half kilograms of wheat or rice or the like, or clothing them, or freeing a believing slave. If you are unable to do all of that, then you fast three days to be released from the responsibility of the vow. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
