I vowed to visit the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) mosque and stay for ten days fasting

Fatwa No. ( 20632 )
Q: I was pregnant, and medical tests confirmed that I was carrying twins in my womb, and I made a vow that if Allah grants me health, I would make a visit to the Messenger of Allah’s (peace and blessings be upon him) mosque and stay there for ten days, fasting during this period that I would spend in Madinah . Now, praise be to Allah, He has granted me health, and I want to fulfill my vow, but my opportunity to go to Madinah has not presented itself to me except in the month of Ramadan, if Allah wills, after the mid-term exams for this year; because I work as a teacher, and my husband is also an employee,
Is it permissible for me to go in the month of Ramadan? Knowing that when I made the vow, I did not specify a particular month, or is it necessary to go in the months of the festivals; because in the month of Ramadan I will be fasting, whether in Madinah or in my home?

A: If your intention by fasting is other than the obligatory fasting established by the original Shari'ah, then fasting in Ramadan does not suffice for your vow. But if your intention is absolute fasting without specification, then fasting in Ramadan and other months suffices; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended.إنما الأعمال بالنيات، وإنما لكل امرئ ما نوى
Sahih al-Bukhari 1
, and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him, and whoever vows to disobey Allah, let him not disobey Him.من نذر أن يطيع الله فليطعه، ومن نذر أن يعصي الله فلا يعصه
Sunan Ibn Majah 2126Sahih (Darussalam)
. It was narrated by al-Bukhari in (his Sahih). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
