Fatwa No. ( 8581 )
Q: I inform you that I have been afflicted with an illness and have been bedridden for two years, unable to stand. I vowed to myself that if Allah grants me health, I would fast ten days of every month . I have fasted for a period of five months after Allah granted me health, and since I am in a land
that is a desert with no air conditioning, and since I am a woman who experiences menstruation, I make up the days I miss from these, and since I am a woman who has become unable to fast due to the extreme difficulty I face in our land as a result of its heat, I ask your eminence to issue a ruling on this question of mine, and may Allah guide you

A: If the situation is as you described regarding the vow, it is obligatory for you to fulfill your vow, as it is an act of obedience to Allah the Exalted and a thanksgiving to Him for the blessing of health. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him, and whoever vows to disobey Allah, let him not disobey Him.من نذر أن يطيع الله فليطعه، ومن نذر أن يعصي الله فلا يعصه
Sunan Ibn Majah 2126Sahih (Darussalam)
, and we ask Allah to grant you assistance and success. Do not return to making vows in the future; for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade making vows and said:
It does not (necessarily) bring good (in the form of substantial, and tangible results), but it is the meant whereby something is extracted from the miserly persons.إنه لا يأتي بخير، وإنما يستخرج به من البخيل
Sahih Muslim 1639c
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
