The claim that Buddha is a prophet

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of fatwa number ( 21004 )
Q1: What is the ruling in Islam regarding one who says that ( Buddha ) is a prophet? And he also says regarding the noble Companion 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): that he knows nothing about politics , and in our Moroccan dialect (he is muddled in politics), knowing that this word is a disparagement of this Companion, and what is the ruling on one who says about the person who says such words (that he is: a zindiq, and no honor), meaning: he judged him to be a zindiq.
A1 : Buddha is not a prophet, but was a disbeliever and a philosopher, who practiced asceticism in a religion other than a heavenly one. So whoever believes in his prophethood is a disbeliever. His people exaggerated in his regard, believed in his divinity, and worshipped him besides Allah. Many people, both ancient and modern, have adopted this polytheistic Buddhist sect. So it is obligatory for the Muslim to hate this sect, hate its people, disavow them, and oppose them for the sake of Allah. As for Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab , he is a noble Companion from the greatest of the emigrant Companions, their scholars and their virtuous ones. It is obligatory to love him and love all the Companions, and to be pleased with them. It is not permissible to disparage them or disparage any one of them; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Do not revile my Companions; by him in whose hand my soul is, if one of you contributed the amount of gold equivalent to Uhud, it would not amount to as much as the mudd of one of them, or half of it.لا تسبوا أصحابي فوالذي نفسي بيده لو أنفق أحدكم مثل أحد ذهبًا ما بلغ مد أحدهم ولا نصيفه
Sunan Abi Dawud 4658Sahih (Al-Albani)
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
