Q: I want you to respond to one of the Muslims who says: "The Muslim is the one who submits his face to Allah" , and by this he means that Christians and Jews can be Muslims, and he says: "The Muslim is the one who submits his face to Allah."
A: This noble verse—and the entire Qur'an is noble—combines the two pillars of acceptable action, which are: 1. Sincerity, which is the meaning of "submits" in the saying of Allah the Exalted:, so worship is for Allah alone, with no partner for Him. 2. Following the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), which is in the saying of Allah the Exalted: , meaning: following the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in this, so one does not worship Allah except with what He has prescribed through the tongue of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Therefore, the deeds of the Jews and Christians, even if their sincerity to Allah the Exalted in them is assumed, are not accepted from them; because they lack their second pillar, which is following the Seal of the Prophets and Messengers, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), whose Shari'ah abrogated all Shari'ahs and religions, with whom the Prophets and Messengers were sealed, and who was sent to all people.
So whoever does not worship Allah after the sending of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with faith in Him and His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and acting according to his Shari'ah, is not a Muslim. And whoever is not so, Allah has said regarding him:[Al-Furqan 25:23], and He the Exalted said: [Al-An'am 6:88], and He the Exalted said: [Ali 'Imran 3:31]. This is the meaning of this noble verse as established by the exegetes, among them Ibn Kathir in (his Tafsir), and Ibn Taymiyyah in (Majmu' al-Fatawa, Vol. 2, pp. 430, 431) and (Vol. 12, p. 469) and (Vol. 28, pp. 174, 175) and in his book (A Glorious Principle in Tawassul and the Means, p. 41). And by this you know the invalidity of what some of those you mentioned say, and that this is carrying the words of Allah to other than what was intended, interpreting them with falsehood, and distorting them from their meaning. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.

A: This noble verse—and the entire Qur'an is noble—combines the two pillars of acceptable action, which are: 1. Sincerity, which is the meaning of "submits" in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Nay, [he is a true believer] who submits his face to Allah
بَلَى مَنْ أَسْلَمَ وَجْهَهُ لِلَّهِand he is a doer of good
وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌSo whoever does not worship Allah after the sending of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with faith in Him and His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and acting according to his Shari'ah, is not a Muslim. And whoever is not so, Allah has said regarding him:
And We will regard what they have done of deeds and make them as dust dispersed.
وَقَدِمْنَا إِلَى مَا عَمِلُوا مِنْ عَمَلٍ فَجَعَلْنَاهُ هَبَاءً مَنْثُورًاBut if they had associated others with Allah, then worthless for them would be whatever they were doing.
وَلَوْ أَشْرَكُوا لَحَبِطَ عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَSay, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."
