The second question of Fatwa No. ( 19595 )
Q 2: I have, O Shaykh, an aunt—my father’s sister—whose problem is that when she begins to be pregnant or learns that she is pregnant, she wears an amulet , that is, a small book, and this book is inside cloth and sewn onto it. If she removes it or takes it away from her chest, the fetus in her womb falls out and comes out dead. The question is: What is to be done regarding this? Please inform us, and may Allah reward you with good for us.
A 2 : This woman hanging a book on her chest when she becomes pregnant, so that her fetus does not fall, and believing that if she removes this amulet or takes it away from
The fetus fell from her chest—it is one of the amulets of shirk (associating partners with Allah) that are forbidden. If this woman believes that this amulet brings benefit or averts harm without Allah, she is a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah) committing major shirk, which takes her out of the religion, may Allah protect us from that; because she believes that benefit and harm come from that amulet without Allah, and this contradicts tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and reliance upon Allah; for benefit and harm are in the hand of Allah alone. But if she believes that they are merely causes, upon which effects are contingent, and that Allah is the One who benefits and harms, then she is a mushrik committing minor shirk. Evidence for this is the generality of what is established from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say:Sunan Abi Dawud 3883Sahih (Al-Albani) Narrated by Imam Ahmad and Abu Dawud , and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Narrated by Imam Ahmad in (al-Musnad) and Ibn Hibban , as in (Mawarid al-Zum'an) and al-Hakim in (al-Mustadrak), and in a narration of Imam Ahmad : , and what was narrated by Abdullah ibn 'Ukaym as marfu' (traced to the Prophet): Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2072Da'if (Darussalam) Narrated by Imam Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi . As for what happens to this woman, namely that if she removes that amulet or moves it away from her chest, the fetus in her womb falls—that is from the influence of
Shaytan (Satan), and not because of the preservation of that amulet. And among what indicates this is what was narrated by Abu Dawud in (his Sunan): Narrated by Imam Ahmad and Ibn Majah and Ibn Hibban and al-Hakim , and he said: authentic. And al-Dhahabi approved it. Accordingly, it is obligatory for this woman to stop hanging this amulet; so that her religion and creed remain safe, and that she be content with what is established in the Shari'ah (Islamic sacred law) regarding the permissibility of ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation) with the Qur'an, the beautiful names of Allah and His attributes, and what is authentic of the adhkar (remembrance of Allah) and Prophetic supplications, and the like of that whose meaning is understood, and in which there is no harm, and that she rely upon Allah with true reliance, and turn to Him in ease and hardship, and ask Him for well-being from all evil, for He alone is the One who benefits and harms, and whoever relies upon Allah and entrusts his affair to Him, He will suffice him and ease his affair and relieve his distress. Allah the Exalted said:
[At-Talaq 65:2-3] . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

spells, charms and love-potions are polytheism
Whoever hangs a tamimah, Allah will not complete for him, and whoever hangs a wada'ah, Allah will not grant him peace.
Whoever hangs up an amulet has committed shirk.

Shaytan (Satan), and not because of the preservation of that amulet. And among what indicates this is what was narrated by Abu Dawud in (his Sunan):
Zaynab, the wife of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, said: Abdullah saw a cord around my neck and said: What is this? I said: It is a cord of ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation) for me. She said: So he took it and cut it, and then said: You, the family of Abdullah, are rich in being free from shirk (associating partners with Allah). I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: (Indeed, ruqyah, amulets, and talismans are shirk). I said: My eye used to be afflicted, and I used to go to so-and-so the Jew, and when he performed ruqyah, it settled. Abdullah said: That is only the work of Shaytan. He used to prick it with his hand, and when he performed ruqyah, he left it alone. It is sufficient for you to say what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: Remove the affliction, O Lord of the people, and You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness.
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him
