Cursing the Age

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 18646 )
Q1: It is reported in a hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Do not curse Time, for it is Allah Who is Time.لا تسبوا الدهر فإن الله هو الدهر
Sahih Muslim 2246e
How is this reconciled with the statement of the (disbelievers):
And they say, "There is not but our worldly life; we die and live, and nothing destroys us except time."وَقَالُوا مَا هِيَ إِلا حَيَاتُنَا الدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَا وَمَا يُهْلِكُنَا إِلا الدَّهْرُ
[Al-Jathiyah 45:24]
?

A1: The hadith agrees with the verse in prohibiting the cursing of time; for the noble verse contains a rebuke of those who attribute destruction to time. Time is not Allah, but rather it is the night and the day. For this reason, it is reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: The son of Adam displeases Me by abusing Dahr (time), whereas I am Dahr--I alternate the night and the day.قال الله عز وجل: يؤذيني ابن آدم يسب الدهر وأنا الدهر، أقلب الليل والنهار
Sahih Muslim 2246b
.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
