Fatwa No. ( 18838 )
Q: What do the jurists, the scholars of hadith, and the group of monotheists say about the one who prioritizes reason over the transmitted texts, argues and disputes, and claims that reason is the reference for everything? When an authentic hadith comes to him, even if it is in al-Bukhari and Muslim, he sees him turning away from it and seeking out defective methods of interpretation that depart from the apparent meaning of the hadith, and they thereby cast doubt on the texts of the hadiths. Is this the truth or is it clear misguidance? Please inform us of the answer, hoping for reward on the Day when every soul will argue for itself.
A: It is obligatory for the Muslim to follow the evidence of the Shari'ah and to reject the claimed rational arguments that contradict it. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-A'raf 7:3], and He the Exalted said: [An-Nisa 4:59]. The one who prioritizes reason over the Shari'ah is a disbeliever in Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Allah the Exalted said:
[An-Nisa 4:65]. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

A: It is obligatory for the Muslim to follow the evidence of the Shari'ah and to reject the claimed rational arguments that contradict it. Allah the Exalted said:
Follow, [O mankind], what has been revealed to you from your Lord
And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger
But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you, [O Muhammad], judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in [full, willing] submission.
