Q: We inform you that twenty years ago, my father brought a man to our farm in al-Shamiyyah. This man recites the Qur'an, and he recited over a sidrah tree in the farm . After the recitation, if someone is bitten or has boils, they place some of it on the affected area and are healed by the permission of Allah the Exalted.
A man from the village came with boils on his hands, so he went to the hospital, and they told him that his hand had to be amputated. He returned to the farm, took some of this sidrah, and placed it on his hands, and he was healed by the permission of Allah the Exalted. This sidrah is not a shrine or the like, but is used in times of dire necessity. I have a worker who was stung by a scorpion, so we went to this tree, took some of it, and placed it on the sting, and he was healed by the permission of Allah. No one believes that it cures, for it is Allah the Mighty and Majestic who heals. Please advise us about its presence in the farm; may Allah reward you. My father has passed away; is it considered a continuing charity or not?
A: It is not permissible to leave the aforementioned sidr tree; rather, it must be cut down and removed, because leaving it in place is a means to shirk (associating partners with Allah). Some ignorant people may be misled by it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rebuked those who asked him to make for them a tree of Anat, just as the polytheists had. Al-Tirmidhi narrated. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Abu Waqid al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to Hunayn, and we were newly converted from disbelief. The polytheists had a sidrah tree around which they would stand in worship and to which they would tie their weapons, called "Dhat Anwat." We said: "O Messenger of Allah, make for us a Dhat Anwat as they have a Dhat Anwat." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah is the Greatest. Those are the ways of the past. You said, by Him in whose hand is my soul, what the Children of Israel said to Moses: 'Make for us a god as they have gods.' He said: 'Indeed, you are a people who know not.' You will surely follow the ways of those who came before you."
