Placing pictures in an album and keeping it
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 15528 )
Q1: I work in an Islamic charitable association, and this association has albums containing photographic pictures (an album), and these pictures are of charitable works carried out by the association. For example, among the pictures there are pictures of orphans in Afghanistan whom the association sponsors, and pictures of a group breaking their fast in the month of Ramadan as part of the "Feeding the Fasting Person" project, and other such pictures; this is in order to introduce the people who do good to the projects existing in the association. So my question is: Are these pictures forbidden
or not?
A1: It is not permissible to take pictures, neither with a photographic camera nor with anything else, without necessity; due to the generality of the prohibition of image-making and the severe warning against it. It is not permissible to keep pictures for which there is no necessity for their retention; due to the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to obliterate and destroy them, and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Ibn Majah 3649Sahih (Darussalam) Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. Image-making and keeping some pictures is only permissible in cases of necessity, such as the pictures in identity cards, passports, personal identification cards, and driver's licenses. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
