Ruling on Keeping Photographs

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
I have some photographs that I keep in an album. Is there any prohibition in doing so?
Answer: Yes, it is not permissible for you or anyone else to keep images of living beings, whether it is a picture of a husband, a child, a father, or anyone else. This is based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) :
Spare no portrait unwiped outلا تدع صورة إلا طمستها
Riyad as-Salihin 1687
, and because he (peace be upon him) prohibited images in the house. When he saw an image on a curtain in the house of 'A'ishah, he tore it and became angry, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The makers of these images will be punished on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said to them: 'Bring to life that which you have created.'إن أصحاب هذه الصور يعذبون يوم القيامة ويقال لهم: أحيوا ما خلقتم
