Keeping what Allah has forbidden of images
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of fatwa number ( 6301 ):
Q1: I have a wife who was found with a picture in a small frame, and she has been keeping it in a bag for several months. This picture is of her sister's husband. Is it permissible for her to keep this picture? I was greatly affected by this, and she says that she considers him like a brother to her. What is your ruling on her? May Allah reward you.
A1: Depicting beings with souls is forbidden and is one of the major sins. Therefore, neither your wife nor anyone else is permitted to keep such pictures or the like. Considering her sister's husband to be like a brother to her does not make it permissible for her to keep what Allah has forbidden of images. The fact that he is her sister's husband does not make him a mahram (a relative one may not marry) to her; rather, he is a stranger to her, and this does not make it permissible for her to keep his picture any more than it would be permissible for her to keep the picture of any other man. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
