The Slaughtered Animal Not Facing the Qiblah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 4979 )
Q: I wanted to buy meat for my children, and at that time a Hadrami citizen arrived with a sacrificial animal he wanted to have slaughtered at the people of the grilled meat shop. When the shop owner received it, he slaughtered it in a direction contrary to the Sunnah , slaughtering it facing east instead of facing the Qiblah. At that point, I tried to persuade him and guide him to the correct Islamic method, but he refused, saying: When we slaughter a sacrificial animal, we mention the name of Allah over it, and we face it in any direction, except for the Hady, which we face toward
the Qiblah. He has restricted this method to the Hadramis among the owners of grilled meat shops in the industrial area of Riyadh . Finally, I would like an answer to the following questions, and your help in guiding and advising such shops. My questions are: What is the ruling on this method and its deviation from the Qiblah? Is this method adopted by the butcher when saying the Basmalah and mentioning Allah during slaughter contrary to the Shari'ah or not? What is the ruling on one who deals with these butchers and eats the meat of their slaughtered animals that are not facing the Qiblah? And I am certain that he knows the Qiblah when I asked him about it.

A: If the reality of the slaughter is as you described, then the slaughter is valid and sufficient for the permissibility of eating from the slaughtered animal. However, the one who slaughtered it deviated from the Sunnah by not facing the Qiblah with the animal when he slaughtered it, and he did wrong by not accepting the advice. He also erred in his claim that facing the Qiblah during slaughter is specific to the Hady; because the Sunnah is to face the Qiblah with the slaughtered animal when slaughtering, absolutely, whether it is Hady, Udhiyah, or otherwise. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
