The Shaykh : This hadith is evidence that they used to announce their sacrificial animals, especially since at that time houses were few, small, and close together. It is also evidence that if one performs an act of worship before its time has entered, he must repeat it. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that another be slaughtered in its place. It is also evidence that the animal slaughtered as a replacement for the one slaughtered before the time must be of the same quality as the one that was slaughtered, based on his saying: meaning as a replacement for it. A replacement must be equal to what it replaces, so it must be of the same quality as the one that was slaughtered. It is also evidence that the time for slaughtering is not except after the prayer, based on his saying: Sahih Muslim 1960b It is also evidence that it is obligatory to mention the name of Allah when slaughtering, based on his saying: Sunan Ibn Majah 3152Sahih (Darussalam) Some scholars derived from this that the implied object of the Basmalah (the phrase "In the name of Allah") is an action appropriate to the occasion. For this reason, he said, "let him slaughter in the name of Allah." If he is commanded to slaughter in the name of Allah, then when he slaughters and says "In the name of Allah," the meaning is "In the name of Allah, I slaughter." And this is the truth.
