The second question of Fatwa No. ( 7900 )
Q2: What is the ruling on keeping a dog in the house solely for guarding? What part of the dog is impure? Is it only its saliva, or its entire body? And does a Muslim have to perform wudu if he touches a dog, or not?
A2: It is permissible to keep a dog for guarding the house, livestock, or crops; because it is established from the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Abi Dawud 2844 narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim . It is not obligatory for a Muslim to perform wudu if he touches a dog; because touching it is not among the things that invalidate wudu, and the dog is entirely impure, its saliva and the rest of it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
