The second question of Fatwa number ( 15129 )
Q2: I lost an item of mine, and one of my colleagues said to me: your item is with so-and-so. When I went to him, he said to me: if I do not find it with me, you owe me a sheep. I swore to give him the sheep if I did not find it with him , and indeed I did not find it with him. What is my obligation? Do I owe an expiation, or do I give him the sheep?
A2: You do not owe a sheep in this matter; because this is an invalid wager, and you owe an expiation for your oath. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
