Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 823 )
Q: I had two molars extracted from my lower jaw on the right side, and two on the left side. I have heard people say that fitting gold is forbidden, while others say it is permissible. They say that ivory has a foul smell. I ask you to inform me if it is permissible for me to fit the four molars
with gold.
A: If you do not find anything to replace your molars with other than gold except what rots, it is permissible for you to have gold molars if dire necessity dictates it. The basis for this is:Mishkat al-Masabih 4400 , narrated by Abu Dawud and others, and graded authentic by al-Hakim . And al-Athram narrated from Musa ibn Talhah , Abu Jamrah al-Dab'i , Abu Rafi' , Thabit al-Bunani , Isma'il ibn Zayd ibn Thabit , and al-Mughirah ibn 'Abd Allah , that they bound their teeth with gold. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
