The ruling on using gold and silver in dental work

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
What is your opinion, O Shaykh, regarding one who uses gold and silver for teeth?
Answer: There is a distinction regarding teeth: if it is easy to obtain teeth made from something other than gold and silver, that is preferable. However, if there is a need for it, there is no harm in it; because it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him)
That he permitted a person whose nose had been cut off to make a nose of silver, but when it became foul-smelling on him, he ordered him to make it of goldأنه أذن لشخص قطع أنفه أن يجعل أنفاً من فضة، فلما أنتن عليه أمر أن يجعله من ذهب
.
This indicates that there is no harm in such a matter out of necessity. Also, it is established from some of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) that they tied their teeth with gold. So, if there is a need for it, there is no harm in it. And if another metal is available that can serve as a substitute for gold, it is better, more preferable, and safer.
This applies specifically to men. As for women, their matter is broader; women have more leeway in this regard; because it is part of adornment. So, if some of her teeth are plated with gold, or if a tooth falls out and she has a gold tooth installed in its place, the matter is easier and simpler for a woman.
As for men, it is obligatory for them to be scrupulous and to avoid gold and silver except in cases of need, such as for teeth or for the nose if it is cut off—there is no power nor strength except in Allah—so that a gold nose is placed in its place; there is no harm in that. Now, teeth are available made from many things that serve as a substitute for gold, and there is no need for gold. Yes.
The presenter: Regarding men?
The Shaykh: Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
