The Pen Adorned with Gold

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 1433 )
Q 3: Is it permissible to use pens adorned with gold or not?
A 3: It is established in (the two Sahihs) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade drinking
and eating from vessels of gold and silver, and he said:
Do not drink from vessels of gold and silver, nor eat from their platters, for they are for them in this world and for you in the Hereafterلا تشربوا في آنية الذهب والفضة ولا تأكلوا في صحافهما، فإنها لهم في الدنيا ولكم في الآخرة
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 47:36
, and he said:
he who drinks out of them in this world will not drink out of them in the nextمن شرب فيهما في الدنيا لم يشرب فيهما في الآخرة
Mishkat al-Masabih 1526
, and he said:
The one who drinks from vessels of gold and silver is merely dragging fire of Hell through his bellyالذي يشرب في آنية الذهب والفضة إنما يجرجر في بطنه نار جهنم
Sahih Ibn Hibban 43:29
, and it is not established from him, to our knowledge, a prohibition against using them in anything other than vessels, clothing, and gold rings for men; so the use of pens adorned with gold in writing is a matter of consideration and independent legal reasoning, and the closest view is that their use is forbidden; because it is a place of extravagance and arrogance, and a manifestation of pride, so it must be included with gold and silver vessels in the prohibition of use due to the common operative cause mentioned. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
