Removing tattoos from the hand and the like
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 13931 )
Q: From time to time, among the traineeswe have at the center, there are those who put some drawings (tattoos) on their limbssuch as a heart, for example, with what is called a spear piercing this heart or the drawing, and there are also drawings indicating a ship's anchor, and some other symbols. Fearing the spread of such a phenomenon among the youth at the center, I hope you will clarify the matter to us from the Shari'ah perspective, especially since removing such drawings requires a surgical operation, and the person remains in the hospital for about fifteen days afterward. I also ask that no sin be attributed to us for reporting on those who undergo the operation. I ask for your information, hoping for their guidance and for you to receive reward and recompense.
A: It is not obligatory for the students to remove the aforementioned tattoo if the treatment for its removal
is as you mentioned, but their families should be informed that it is not permissible for them to do so in the future, and that they must repent for what has occurred on their part. It should be announced that this is prohibited in the institute so that everyone knows. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
