Bathing with water used to wash a corpse

Q: I hope you will kindly clarify some matters, which, unfortunately, are common among some families here in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah . Among these matters are the following: 1 - If a woman who is in the post-natal bleeding period visits another woman who is also in the post-natal bleeding period, this exposes the woman who was visited to what is called: (al-Kabasa) . Al-Kabasa means: that the milk in the breasts of the woman who was visited is suppressed, or that the woman will not become pregnant afterwards unless she bathes with water that was used to wash a corpse, or that she walks over water that was also used to wash a corpse, or that she walks over seawater, or that she bathes with the water used by the woman who visited her, who is in the post-natal bleeding period, and she bathes with it for three consecutive Fridays, when the people are at that time in the Friday prayer. 2 - On the wedding day, if there is more than one bride, the second bride must not enter upon the first bride , so that the second bride does not take the first bride's luck and suppress her. To avoid al-Kabasa in all the previous cases, there is a necklace called (al-Mushkhas) that is worn, whether by the woman in the post-natal bleeding period or the bride, to protect them from the evil of al-Kabasa. 3 - A woman in the post-natal bleeding period is not visited by someone who has just returned from a journey , nor by someone who has just come from al-Baqi' ; so that she is not suppressed as well.
4 - It is the custom here among some families in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah that specific days are designated for condolences, and that there are days on which they do not go to offer condolences , and days on which anyone who wishes to offer condolences must go before the Maghrib prayer. 5 - If a person dies and the people go to attend the washing and the removal of the funeral, they are not required to leave the house until the (al-Salib) returns . Al-Salib are: the men who went with the funeral to al-Baqi' . The wisdom behind this is that if they leave before that, it is a bad omen for the people of the house, and it is possible that another person in the same house may die. Finally, please accept my sincere thanks and highest respect.

A : All these matters mentioned in these questions have no basis in the Shari'ah; rather, they are false superstitions, and they corrupt the creed. Therefore, they must be abandoned and people must be warned against them. One must rely upon Allah the Exalted and depend on Him. It is obligatory to abandon customs that contradict the Shari'ah, such as these matters and others, and to adhere to the correct creed. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
