What We Hear of Singing on the Radio and Television

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 3258 )
Q 1: Is what we hear of singing on the radio and television forbidden singing?
A 1: Yes, what we hear of singing on the radio and television is forbidden; because it is a form of amusement, much of it arouses sexual desire, and stirs up the impulses of passion and infatuation. It is a tool for the destruction of morals, a numbing of the soul, and a weakening of it from working to rise to the heights of noble matters. It is faster in spreading corruption in Islamic environments and circles than anything else.
Q 2: What is the ruling on music without singing , is it permissible to listen to it, and what is the meaning of the fact that some scholars excelled in the science of music, and that it was used to treat patients?
A 2: It is forbidden to engage in broadcasting music and listening to it, whether it is with singing or not. It is more severe in harm and corruption of fitrah and morals when accompanied by singing. What is mentioned about some scholars excelling in it is true; but they are of the type of al-Farabi , those who have no excellence in the Islamic religion, and are not a model for Muslims, nor a proof in the truth, nor among the imams of Muslims in knowledge
and creed and practice; like the Rightly Guided Caliphs (may Allah be pleased with them) and the imams of the righteous Salaf; such as Sa'id ibn Jubayr and al-Hasan al-Basri and al-Shafi'i and Ahmad ibn Hanbal and al-Awza'i , and their like in Islamic knowledge and acting upon it. These are the model for those who came after them (may Allah have mercy on them). As for treatment with music, it is not permissible, and the Muslim does not need it because there is what suffices in its place from Islamic anthems and reciting the Qur'an with a beautiful voice, and the like of that which calms the nerves, inspires joy in the soul, and increases the Muslim's faith in Allah and His decree and destiny.
