Repentance from Listening to Songs
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 18837 )
Q: Praise be to Allah that I am a woman who prays, fasts, and worships Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). I have tried many, many times to repent from listening to songs, but I have not been able to. So what do you advise me to do?
A: What we advise you to do is to turn to Allah, to be humble before Him (Glorified and Exalted is He), to fear Him in secret and in public, and to ask Him for success in abandoning sins and staying away from them. You should also increase your recitation of the Qur'an and the remembrance of Allah, such as glorifying Him, saying Allahu Akbar, praising Him, and turning to Allah with frequent supplication, such as saying: (O Allah, make faith beloved to me and adorn it in my heart, and make disbelief, open sinfulness,
and disobedience hateful to me, and make me among the guided ones), along with turning away from listening to songs and staying away from their places.[Al-'Ankabut 29:45] . So performing acts of obedience, staying away from sins, and turning to Allah in times of hardship and ease are the cause of Allah's pleasure with the servant and His guidance for him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
