Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I intended to travel one day, so I prayed 'Isha' with Maghrib, combining them in advance, but then Allah did not will for me to travel. Do I have to repeat the 'Isha' prayer in its proper time?

The Shaykh : It is permissible for a traveler to combine prayers, but it is not permissible for him to combine them unless he has left his town. As long as he remains in the town, it is not permissible for him to combine them, because he is not considered a traveler until he leaves. Accordingly, your combining the prayer before leaving the town is considered out of place, and you must repeat this prayer that you combined before going out to travel. Yes.

The questioner : The condition for the dispensation of combining prayers is leaving the town.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Even if it is not the distance for shortening the prayer?

The Shaykh : Yes, yes.

The questioner : As long as he intends to travel a long distance, the distance for shortening or more? Yes.

The Shaykh : ... And likewise for shortening the prayer: one does not shorten until he leaves the town. So if he leaves the boundaries of the town and is intending a journey that permits shortening, then it is permissible for him to combine and it is permissible for him to shorten.

The questioner : Even in the case of returning, meaning if the time for prayer arrives before he reaches his home or his town, at a short distance that may be much less than the distance for shortening, but he is at the end of his journey, then he also has the rulings of travel.

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed.

The questioner : Yes?

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : The third or fourth question says.
