Fatwa No. ( 13633 )
Q: I have vowed to fast three days for the Most Merciful, purely for the face of Allah the Exalted, without being limited by a specific time, period, day, or place. This was for my success in the general secondary school exams. I have already fasted the first of these three days on the Day of 'Arafah this year, in order to gain the reward of fasting on the Day of 'Arafah and the reward of fulfilling the vow. My question is: Is it permissible to fast on the Day of 'Arafah to fulfill the vow of one of these three days that I vowed purely for the face of Allah the Exalted? May Allah prolong your life, O your Eminence, and grant you health and well-being.
A: If the matter is as you described, and if you fasted on the Day of 'Arafah with the intention that it is for one of the days of the vow you made, then that suffices for the vow. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
