Fatwa No. ( 1937 )
Q: I vowed to myself to fast three days of every month until the last day of my life, and that was three years ago, and I fear that with the passage of time I
may be unable to keep that fast. Is it permissible for me to pay a ransom or feed the poor?
A: Your vow is a vow of obedience, and the Shari'ah has made it obligatory to fulfill a vow of obedience. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Insan 76:7] , and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in what is authentically reported from him: Sunan Ibn Majah 2126Sahih (Darussalam) So you must continue to fulfill your vow as long as you are able. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread.
يُوفُونَ بِالنَّذْرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا كَانَ شَرُّهُ مُسْتَطِيرًاWhoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him, and whoever vows to disobey Allah, let him not disobey Him.
من نذر أن يطيع الله فليطعه، ومن نذر أن يعصي الله فلا يعصه
