Disinheriting the disobedient son from inheritance

Fatwa number ( 8645 )
Q: I have a son who is thirty years old, and he is disobedient to me, he abandons prayer, and Allah knows that he has not been free from drinking intoxicants. I am a sane man and I am over sixty years old. I have eight children: five daughters and three sons, a wife, and a mother, and I have not been able to provide for them. Five years ago, he aimed a pistol at his younger brother, who was five years old, and he wanted to kill him. But life is long, and the bullet lodged in the young boy's bladder. We rushed him to a hospital in the city of Taiz, because there are no hospitals in our rural area. I stayed with the boy for three months until the bullet came out of the boy, and I incurred a debt of
fifteen thousand riyals. Why did you do this, and this is your brother? He said to me: Be quiet, and he slapped me in the face in front of people. What should I do with this, when I raised him, educated him, and married him off, and then he came to wish death upon me, and became a drunkard who abandons prayer ? I ask you by Allah, advise me what I should do: should I disinherit him from the inheritance, or should I hand him over to the government? And peace be upon you.
A: If the situation is as you described, then call upon Allah for him to be guided and granted success in being dutiful to his parents, maintaining family ties, and obeying his Lord. Advise him with wisdom and good exhortation, perhaps he will respond to you and listen to your words by the might and power of Allah. And cooperate with relatives, neighbors, and friends in guiding him. Do not disinherit him from the inheritance, for that will only anger him more, and he will dominate you more severely than before and increase his evil and harm. Leave your wealth without dividing it, and benefit from it during your lifetime, for that is better for you. Glory be to Allah, the Turner of hearts and the Changer of circumstances. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
