Fatwa No. ( 15990 )
Praise be to Allah alone, and peace and blessings be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. And after: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from His Excellency the Minister of Health, and referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars, with number (1939) and date 23 \ 4 \ 1413 AH. His Excellency asked a question, the text of which is as follows: In view of the fact that some doctors are feeding children with natural milk expressed from some mothers who have children in the department, where
the milk is stored in the refrigerator and given to another child without the knowledge of the mother or the child's relatives, on the grounds that natural milk helps prevent diseases. We hope you will inform us of the Islamic ruling on this matter, knowing that all health regions have been instructed to stop this type of breastfeeding - if it exists - by circular number (171 \ 1038 \ 26) and date 29 \ 3 \ 1413 AH, thanking His Eminence for his distinguished efforts in serving Islam and Muslims. After the Committee studied it, it answered as follows:

It is not permissible in Islamic law to express milk from mothers, keep their milk, and feed another child with it; because of the ignorance involved, which leads to violating the sanctities of breastfeeding, by which prohibition is established in Islamic law, from the side of the wet nurse, from the side of the one whose milk it is, and from the side of the nursling. Indeed, what is prohibited by breastfeeding is prohibited by blood relation. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
So he, who saves himself from these doubtful things, saves his religion and his honorمن اتقى الشبهات فقد استبرأ لدينه وعرضه
Bulugh al-Maram 16:32
. Based on this, it is not permissible to establish banks to collect women's milk to feed children who need it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
