Q1: A mother died leaving her son while she was in post-natal bleeding, so his maternal grandmother took him in. She was advanced in age, had never given birth, and was not a nurse, but Allah caused milk to flow for him, and she breastfed him for two years. Is it permissible for this son to marry the daughter of his maternal uncle (through his grandmother) and his brother through breastfeeding, as described above?
A1: If the matter is as described regarding breastfeeding, then this son is a brother to his maternal uncle through breastfeeding, and an uncle to his maternal uncle's daughter through breastfeeding. Therefore, it is forbidden for him to marry her; based on the saying of the Exalted:[An-Nisa 4:23] until He said: [An-Nisa 4:23] , and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Ibn Majah 1937Sahih (Darussalam) .
