Q: Some questioners ask about my books (A Warning Against the Fitnah of Takfir) and (A Cry of Warning) compiled by: Ali Hasan al-Halabi , which call for the doctrine of the Murji'ah that deeds are not a condition for the validity of faith, and attribute this to the people of the Sunnah and the community. These two books are based on distorted quotes from Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah , al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir , and others, may Allah have mercy on them all. Out of the desire of those who advise to clarify what is in these two books so that readers may know the truth from falsehood... etc.
A: After the Committee studied the two aforementioned books, it became clear to the Committee that the book (A Warning Against the Fitnah of Takfir), compiled by Ali Hasan al-Halabi , contains in what he added to the words of the scholars in its introduction and footnotes the following: 1- Its author based it on the innovated and invalid doctrine of the Murji'ah , who restrict disbelief to the disbelief of denial, refutation, and heart-based permissibility, as in (p. 6, footnote 2, p. 22). This is contrary to the position of the people of the Sunnah and the community, who hold that disbelief occurs through belief, speech, action, and doubt. 2- His distortion in quoting from Ibn Kathir - may Allah have mercy on him - in (al-Bidaya wa al-Nihaya 13/118), where he mentioned in the footnote on p. 15 a quote
from Ibn Kathir : (that Genghis Khan claimed in the Yasaq that it was from Allah, and that this was the cause of their disbelief). Upon returning to the mentioned location, nothing was found there that he attributed to Ibn Kathir - may Allah have mercy on him. 3- His fabrication against Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah - may Allah have mercy on him - on pp. 17-18, where the compiler of the aforementioned book attributed to him the claim that a changed ruling is not considered disbelief according to Shaykh al-Islam unless it is done with knowledge, belief, and permissibility. This is pure fabrication against Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah - may Allah have mercy on him - for he is the propagator of the doctrine of the Salaf, the people of the Sunnah and the community, and their doctrine is as previously mentioned. This is only the doctrine of the Murji'ah . 4- His distortion of the intent of the dignified scholar Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim - may Allah have mercy on him - in his treatise: (The Adjudication of Man-Made Laws), where the compiler of the aforementioned book claimed that the Shaykh conditions heart-based permissibility, whereas the Shaykh's words are as clear as the sun in the aforementioned treatise, following the path of the people of the Sunnah and the community. 5- His commentary on the words of the scholars he mentioned by attributing to their words what they cannot bear, as in the pages (108, footnote 1, 109
footnote 21, 110, footnote 2). 6- The book also contains belittling the ruling by other than what Allah has revealed, especially in (p. 5, footnote 1), by claiming that focusing on establishing tawhid in this issue resembles the Shi'ah - the Rafidah - and this is a grave error. 7- Upon reviewing the second treatise (A Cry of Warning), it was found to be a support for what is in the aforementioned book - and its state is as mentioned. Therefore, the Permanent Committee holds that these two books are not permissible to be printed, published, or circulated; because of the falsehood and distortion contained in them. We advise their author to fear Allah regarding himself and the Muslims, especially their youth, and to strive to acquire religious knowledge from scholars whose knowledge and good creed are trusted. It is known that knowledge is a trust that is not permissible to be published except in accordance with the Book and the Sunnah, and that he should abandon such opinions and this deplorable path of distorting the words of the scholars. It is known that returning to the truth is a virtue and an honor for the Muslim. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
