Q: In the book (Taniwir al-Mu'minat) by its author 'Abd al-Salam al-Yasin (the guide of the Islamic Justice and Charity Group in the Western Maghreb ), Volume 1, page 290, first edition of 1996 CE, it says: (The great Sufis like al-Ghazali look into the Preserved Tablet, so what is my status in the darkness of ignorance, and Ibn Taymiyyah reads in the Preserved Tablet and foretells the unseen of the future, how? A Preserved Tablet! And knowledge of the unseen! And Ibn Taymiyyah ! Yes, indeed
Shall I not tell you the page and part so that you can read the book (*Madaraj al-Salikin*) by the intelligent, brilliant student of Ibn Taymiyyah , who described how he consulted his Shaykh when his Shaykh informed him that the Muslims would be victorious in a battle against the Tatars, and his Shaykh informed him that he had seen that in the Preserved Tablet.” End of quote. Our honorable Shaykh: If it is known about the Sufis their myths, their falsehoods, and their deviation from the correct creed, then the matter is different regarding the renowned Imams from the people of tawhid (the oneness of Allah), especially regarding the Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and his student Ibn al-Qayyim . Our noble Shaykh: Please inform us whether what is attributed to the two noble Shaykhs, Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim , is true, and that the Shaykh al-Islam read in the Preserved Tablet and foretold the unseen, or is it an accusation that the Sufis throw at the people of tawhid? And has any human being—messengers and others—ever looked into the Preserved Tablet? Our Shaykh, in the same book by the same author, Volume 2, page 37, it is written: “The gifted student received the last writings of Ibn Taymiyyah from the prison in which he died. Among what he wrote to his students was a letter resembling severe reprimand, in which he blamed the horse of the transmitted and the rational for lacking *wajd* (ecstasy).” End of quote. And in the same volume, page 40, it is written: “Would that they had read (*Fatwas of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah ) from the first part to the fiftieth page of the fifth part
and the thirtieth, so that they would read of the wonders of belief in the permissible partial *hulul* (incarnation), and would read the truthful horse reproaching his brothers from inside the prison of his death for their lack of [wajd].” End of quote. Our honorable Shaykh: What is *wajd* in the terminology of the Sufis? And is it true that the Shaykh al-Islam wrote to his students informing them of their lack of *wajd*? Our honorable Shaykh: There are two catastrophes in a book by the same author, Abd al-Salam al-Yasin , and the book is: (*Nazarat fi al-Fiqh wa al-Tarikh*), first edition June 1989 CE. On page 37, it is written: “Indeed, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, informed us that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is eager for the believers, compassionate and merciful to them, and that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) many matters of the unseen, which will happen to his Ummah (the Muslim community) until the Day of Resurrection. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) transmitted some of it to us and omitted much.” End of quote. And on pages 39-40, it is written: “Two hadiths in Muslim condition obedience with two conditions: that the ruler leads the Ummah with the Book of Allah the Exalted, and that he establishes prayer among the people. Thus, the responsibility of judgment remains for the believers to distinguish the ruler who leads with the Qur'an or does not lead, and to judge the establishment of prayer, what its meaning is and what its practical implication is. If the noble Messenger
upon Allah, supported by revelation, points to the places of destiny that his Lord revealed to him, giving advice in advance, then it was not for him to anticipate destiny by detailing what should remain folded, nor by specifying what must remain until the time of its appearance, veiled by the veils of concealment, nor by defining the limits of the two governing conditions. He (peace and blessings be upon him) kept it secret and remained silent about it so that he would bear all his responsibility, and so that people would have no argument against Allah after the messengers.” End of quote. And Allah, Glorified and Exalted, says in Surat al-Ma'idah, verse 67:[Al-Ma'idah 5:67] . Our honorable Shaykh: Is it permissible to belong to this group and these ideas and sayings of its guide and its commander (who is under siege and compulsory residence)? And what is the advice of our Shaykh to the individuals belonging to this group, which is the most widespread in the Maghreb , especially among the youth and students?
A: What is stated in the aforementioned book that any of the scholars or others know what is in the Preserved Tablet is entirely false; because what is in the Preserved Tablet is from
the unseen, which no one knows except Allah, Glorified and Exalted. He, the Exalted, said:[An-Naml 27:65] , and He, the Exalted, said: [Al-Jinn 72:26-27] . As for belonging to groups, it is obligatory to belong to groups that adhere to the Book and the Sunnah and the methodology of the Salaf (the earliest generations) al-Salih (the righteous). As for *wajd*, it is one of the terms of the Sufis, and its meaning is: intense love. And Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah did not write to his students or to others using this Sufi term; rather, he used to advise following the Book and the Sunnah, and prohibit the innovations of the Sufis and others. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
