Denial of Matters of Religion on Which There Is Consensus

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 19663 )
Q: An American man entered the religion of Islam with the testimony of truth, prayer, zakah, and fasting, but he denies some of the rulings of the Shari'ah, such as letting the garment hang below the ankles, plural marriage, and cutting off the hand of the thief. We tried to convince him with all the scriptural evidence, but we were unable to do so. What is the ruling on his action?
A: Whoever denies something of the rulings of the Shari'ah on which there is consensus, and persists in that after it has been explained to him and his ignorance of it has been removed, he is considered an apostate from the religion of Islam. Allah the Exalted said:
That is because they disliked what Allah revealed, so He rendered worthless their deeds.ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا مَا أَنْـزَلَ اللَّهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ
[Muhammad 47:9]
And Allah is the Guide to the straight path. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
