Reminding People with a Loudspeaker After the Fajr Prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 7496 )
Q: I am the imam of a mosque in a village in the Jizan region, and I deliver a religious talk to the mosque congregation after the Fajr prayer, using a microphone for this talk so that some of the women and others near the mosque can benefit from it. Some of the brothers ask me to turn off the microphone, claiming that I am disturbing the people, and some of them criticize me for this. My intention, if Allah wills, is far from seeking fame or showing off in worship; may Allah protect us and you from that. I ask for your guidance. May Allah reward you with good.
A: Guiding people, teaching them matters of their religion, admonishing them, reminding them of Allah and the Last Day, encouraging them to do what is right, and forbidding them from doing what is wrong
is required by the Shari'ah, and this is part of the calling of the messengers (peace and blessings be upon them). However, the one who calls to Allah must choose the appropriate time and manner that does not cause harm to people, nor harshness, nor repulsion from them; otherwise, his good deed becomes an evil one. Accordingly, you should not use the microphone for your talk at the time mentioned, in order to prevent harm to the people. It is sufficient for you to guide those with you in the mosque. This is different from the adhan, for we have been commanded to convey the call to people so that they attend the congregational prayer in the mosque; therefore, the louder and higher the voice, the better it is, even if it bothers those who do not wish to attend the congregational prayer. And we must stand by what Allah has prescribed. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
