Importing a device that recites supplications for the purpose of reminding

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 20870 )
Q: I submit to your Eminence an inquiry regarding the permissibility of importing a device made in several forms. One form is a talking tasbih (prayer beads) with a small touch-activated device at its front that emits a recorded voice reciting certain supplications and dhikr (remembrance of Allah); it can be placed in a car near the rearview mirror. Another form is a talking medal that, when touched, also emits a recorded voice in Arabic from a Muslim person reciting well-known supplications and dhikr. There is also a square-shaped form placed in the car's dashboard—meaning its front—that recites the supplication for riding a mount and the travel supplication (In the name of Allah, praise be to Allah, glory to the One who subjected this to us... etc.), or dhikr such as: (Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest), or
like the supplication: (O Allah, protect my companion and protect those who carry me, in the name of Allah I place my trust in Allah). There are also forms placed in the car in the shape of a square box, or at the home entrance, which emit the supplication for leaving the house: (In the name of Allah I place my trust in Allah, and there is no power nor might except with Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You lest I stray or be led astray, or slip or be made to slip, or be ignorant or have ignorance imposed upon me). They come in many forms and contain fixed dhikr established in the pure Sunnah, their purpose being to remind and repeat the supplication, such as the travel or riding supplication, or for those who do not memorize or know how to recite, or to remind the Muslim of these blessed supplications by all means that modern worldly work has reached? In order to serve our noble religion, guide the servants, call to Allah, and connect them to the remembrance of Allah in all circumstances, by all means and methods permissible by the Shari'ah. The device is very small, consisting of a recorded voice that operates when touched and repeats what was recorded in the voice of a Muslim in Arabic, and is placed in the appropriate place for the supplication. It is manufactured in a factory by a Muslim merchant abroad. I hope your Eminence will clarify the legal ruling on importing this merchandise. May Allah preserve you and care for you.

A: It is not permissible to import this device in the forms mentioned; because the remembrance of Allah is a physical act of worship, and it is required of the Muslim to perform it himself, and one does not suffice
by hearing it from tapes, and because this action leads to frivolity in worship and laziness in obedience. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
