Raising the Hands in Supplication

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of the fatwa numbered ( 18056 )
Q 4: Is raising the hands in supplication absolute or restricted, and is it emphasized in certain places?
A 4: The principle is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to raise his hands when he exerted himself in supplication and said:
Your Lord is munificent and generous, and is ashamed to turn away empty the hands of His servant when he raises them to Him.إن الله حيي كريم، يستحي من عبده إذا رفع يديه إليه أن يردهما صفرًا
Sunan Abi Dawud 1488Sahih (Al-Albani)
, and due to the generality of the hadith:
He then made a mention of a person who travels widely, his hair disheveled and covered with dust. He lifts his hand towards the skyوذكر العبد يطيل السفر أشعث أغبر يمد يديه إلى السماء
Sahih Muslim 1015
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands on the day he prayed for rain on the pulpit on Friday. As for after the obligatory prayers, it is not prescribed to raise the hands, and likewise, supplication on the pulpit does not involve raising the hands except in the prayer for rain; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not do it, and his Rightly Guided Successors did not do it, and all good lies in following them.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
