Are the rulings of travel permissible due to the existence of modern and fast means of transport, and is the operative cause in the rulings of travel hardship?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : With the presence or availability of current means of transport and the speed of covering this distance, which is, for example, eighty kilometers or more, does this also permit, I mean, the rulings of travel with regard to shortening the prayer?

The Shaykh : Yes, according to the position that defines travel by distance, there is no difference between covering it in one day.

The questioner : I mean, the operative cause is not hardship and fatigue, is it?

The Shaykh : Yes, there is no difference between covering it in one day, two days, half an hour, or more. The scholars have explicitly stated this, and the operative cause is not hardship in travel, but rather that travel is a place where hardship is likely to occur.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Whether it exists or not. For this reason, it is permissible for a person to shorten the prayer to two units while he is resident in his place of travel, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) resided in his place of travel during the Hajj. He stayed four days before his departure to the sacred sites and stayed six days in the sacred sites, and he used to shorten the prayer (peace and blessings be upon him).

The questioner : O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad. May Allah reward you.
