Q: I work in tailoring trousers, and most of the people who have trousers made by me want them lengthened below the ankles. As you know, this contradicts the hadiths reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So, would I be sinful if I complied with their request, and what should I do? Please note that I work in a profession other than this as well. Please advise us, and may Allah reward you with good.
A: It is not permissible for a man to lengthen his garment below the ankles, whether it is a thobe, trousers, an abaya, or anything else. Therefore, it is not permissible for you to make garments or trousers that hang below the ankles for anyone. If you do so, you are sinful, because it is cooperation in sin and transgression. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
