Testimony Without Knowledge

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 14844 )
Q1: I work in a government department, and there is a contractor. They ask us to testify for the contractor at the end of the month that he brings the entire required quantity, but we do not know whether he brings it all or if he shortchanges it. The center manager threatens us unless we testify. .
A1: Testimony is not permissible except for what you know and are certain is so. As for if you know that it is contrary to what you testify to, or if you testify to what you do not know, that is not permissible for you. Rather, that is false testimony. And Allah the Exalted said:
and avoid false statement,وَاجْتَنِبُوا قَوْلَ الزُّورِ
[Al-Hajj 22:30]
, and in the hadith agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned some of the major sins, he said:
Beware of false speech, beware of false testimony. He kept repeating it until the Companions said: If only he had remained silentألا وقول الزور، ألا وشهادة الزور، فما زال يكررها حتى قال الصحابة: ليته سكت
; out of fear of the magnitude of this sin.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
