Fatwa number ( 13645 )
Q: I inform you that I am one of the employees of government institutions and have worked there for a long period, and I work in financial affairs. And I extended my hand to a portion of the money in this institution, which is not lawful for me, then I repented with great repentance for that, then I was transferred to another department of the institution other than financial affairs. I tried to inquire from several shaykhs about this matter, and they informed me of the obligation to return the money to its owners, along with seeking their forgiveness. I tried hard to do so but without success. If I return it to the head of the institution, it may result in a dismissal or expulsion for me. And Allah knows that I have no source of income for myself and my family other than my salary from this institution. Therefore, I place my problem
before you. Can I undertake to repair a mosque or spend this money on the mujahideen or the poor? Knowing that the amount is less than forty thousand riyals. We hope from Allah, then from you, to clarify for us what you can. May Allah grant you His help and success.

A: If the matter is as mentioned, then you should spend this money that you took on the construction of some mosques or any charitable project, or give it in charity to the poor. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
