The second question of Fatwa No. ( 17457 )
Q 2: Supplicating to the dead when visiting the graves of al-Baqi' and the graves of the martyrs of Uhud, and throwing money at them to draw near to them . What is the ruling on these actions?
A 2 : Supplicating to the dead and calling upon them for aid when visiting their graves or in any state is major shirk (associating partners with Allah) that takes one out of the religion; because supplication is the greatest type of worship, and Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Mu'minun 23:117] Likewise, throwing money on the graves of the dead, slaughtering animals at them, and spending money to draw near to them, all of this is among the greatest types of major shirk. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

And whoever invokes besides Allah another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
