The Meaning of the Hadith: Wisdom is the Believer’s Lost Property

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question from Fatwa number ( 21010 )
Q3: What is the implication of the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith:
Wisdom is the lost property of the believer; wherever he finds it, he takes itالحكمة ضالة المؤمن أنى وجدها يأخذها
And in another narration: Wherever he finds it, he takes it. What are the ways of acting upon it and utilizing it?

A3 : First : This hadith is narrated with similar wordings; among them is what al-Tirmidhi recorded in his (Jami') through the route of Ibrahim ibn al-Fadl al-Madani from al-Maqburi from Abu Hurayrah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
The wise statement is the lost property of the believer, so wherever he finds it, then he is more worthy of it.الحكمة ضالة المؤمن، فحيث وجدها فهو أحق بها
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2687Da'if (Darussalam)
, and it was also narrated by Ibn Majah in his (Sunan), al-'Uqayli in (al-Du'afa'), Ibn 'Adi in (al-Kamil), and Ibn Hibban in (al-Majruhin). The hadith is very weak, and its attribution to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is not authentic; because in its chain is Ibrahim ibn al-Fadl al-Madani , and the scholars of hadith have unanimously agreed to weaken him. Imam Ahmad said about him: He is not strong in hadith; his hadith is weak. And Yahya ibn Ma'in said: He is of no value. And he said once: His hadith is weak; do not write his hadith. And Abu Hatim al-Razi al-Bukhari and al-Nasa'i said: His hadith is denounced. Second: As for the meaning of the hadith, the general texts of the evidence support it, and it is
that a beneficial word that does not contradict the texts of the Shari'ah may be uttered by one who is not qualified for it, and then it falls to those who are qualified for it. So it is not befitting for the believer to turn away from it; rather, it is more appropriate to benefit from it and act upon it without paying attention to its speaker. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
