The second question of fatwa number ( 18100 )
Q2: I have a friend whose father has bad character toward his children. Nevertheless, he prays and has performed the rites of Hajj. However, sometimes his tongue is sinful; for he curses his children with the ugliest names on earth, and he has instilled illness in his children to the extent that they do not want to look at him or speak to him. He also curses them in front of his friends, even though his sons and daughters have good character. What does Islam say about such a father? And what is the solution for his innocent children?
A2: Good character is part of faith, and good treatment is part of Islam. Both are among the religious etiquettes required of every Muslim. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) hates the vulgar, the obscene, and the one of bad character and disposition. Therefore, the father must restrain his tongue from cursing and insulting. This, in addition to the sin and transgression it contains, leads the offspring to bad character. So you should advise him, and his children should avoid provocation and quarreling, while maintaining good etiquette with him and praying for his success and guidance. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
