Combining Knowledge with Action (Which is Part of Good Character)
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : All praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own souls and from the evil of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can mislead, and whomsoever He leaves to mislead, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.

[Al-Ahzab 33:70-71]
After that: We have mentioned more than once that one of the fruits of knowledge is action, and that any knowledge not accompanied by action becomes a burden upon its owner. Therefore, it is no wonder that it was reported from some of the Salaf that he said: "Woe to the ignorant person once, and woe to the knowledgeable person seven times". The purpose of knowledge is action; therefore, it is not permissible for your concern to be knowledge alone, but rather that action should be combined with knowledge. Among the knowledge that has become widespread and prevalent among all Muslims, with no distinction between a scholar, a student of knowledge, or others, is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih al-Bukhari 13 This is the wording of the hadith in the two Sahihs. Then the hadith came with an addition that clarifies the intended meaning of the hadith in the clearest way, namely his saying (peace be upon him): Meaning, none of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself of good. It is obligatory for every Muslim to love for people what he loves for himself of good. This love for good for every Muslim is among the noble traits of character, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) explicitly stated regarding them: Sunan al-Bayhaqi 18:249 I observe, with regret, that people today are concerned with the first aspect, which is knowledge, and are not concerned with the other aspect, which is character and behavior. If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) almost restricted his call to the beauties and nobilities of character when he used the tool of restriction and said: Sunan al-Bayhaqi 18:249 Then that means that the nobilities of character are an essential part of the call of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). In fact, at the beginning of my pursuit of knowledge and Allah’s (Mighty and Majestic) guidance of me to pure tawhid, and my reading about what the Islamic world was experiencing in terms of distance from this tawhid, I thought that the problem in the Islamic world was only their distance from understanding the reality of the meaning of "La ilaha illa Allah." But with time, I came to realize that there is another problem in this world added to the first, fundamental problem, which is their distance from tawhid. The other problem is that most of them do not adorn themselves with the true character of Islam except to a very small degree. Many hadiths have been reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) commanding good character. In some of them, it is mentioned that a man advised or asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) for advice, and he said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): "Adhere to good character." And in another hadith, which is a very great hadith, namely his saying (peace and blessings be upon him and his family): Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 14:26 His saying (peace and blessings be upon him and his family): Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 14:26 is a very great command, because whoever is good in his behavior with the Muslims is as if he has stood in prayer at night and fasted during the day. Therefore, we, the Muslims, must combine knowledge with action, and action is part of good character with your Muslim brother. I am optimistic about your intense crowding to sit for the pursuit of knowledge; as much as this delights me, it saddens me that you push and crowd each other until a small child can hardly walk between your feet. So I remind you, and the reminder benefits the believers, that you must be characterized by and adorned with tranquility. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) mentioned in an authentic hadith: "The mosques are the houses of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), and they are visited not only for prayer, but also for knowledge." You have heard from the preachers and orators that the mosques in early Islam were not only for prayer, where a man would pray four rak'ahs or less or more and then leave, but the mosques were also schools where people learned knowledge, behavior, and character. If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) commands the Muslim that when he leaves his house for the mosque, he should not rush, but walk with tranquility and dignity, and you come to this gathering to receive such knowledge that came from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family), then you must walk with tranquility and dignity. How is it that you are running? I do not mean the running of beasts, but you are running in a manner that does not befit you, considering that you are students of knowledge. I hope to see you living up to the good expectation of acting upon what came from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and that includes not pushing each other, not crowding each other, and having tranquility and dignity when you intend to attend a gathering of knowledge by which you seek to draw near to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). This is a reminder, and the reminder benefits the believers. I hope not to see you again except as we should see you in good character with one another. Now, bring forth your questions.

O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
يا أيها الذين ءامنو اتقوا الله حق تقاته ولا تموتن إلا وأنتم مسلمونO mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
يا أيها الناس اتقوا ربكم الذي خلقكم من نفس واحدة وخلق منها زوجها وبث منهما رجالا كثيرا ونساء واتقوا الله الذي تسآءلون به والأرحام إن الله كان عليكم رقيبا(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
