Maintaining family ties is an individual obligation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 11254 )
Q: I have a relative in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and I am in Yemen , and she has been away from her family and relatives for 15 years. She has ordered me to visit her, but I have not visited her because visiting requires a passport, and I cannot afford the cost of the passport. The passport in Yemen costs more than I can afford. Is there a sin on me for that, or not? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
A: Maintaining family ties is obligatory for the one who is accountable; because of the great good in it, such as uniting hearts and gathering them in love, affection, and cooperation, and restraining enmity and hatred. This is to be done according to one’s ability. So if you are unable to do it, there is no blame on you and no sin. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
