Maintaining Ties with One Who Has Cut Them Off

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 7010 )
Q: I have an older full brother who has cut off contact with me for nine years. I have not found a reason for this severance, as he lives in the same neighborhood where I reside. I visited him at the beginning of his severance and asked him about the reason, but he did not answer me. I have met him several times and spoken to him, but he does not answer or respond to me. I have instructed my older brothers to ask him about the reason for his severance, but he did not answer them, as I am his only sister.
When relatives ask him about me, he tells them: "I have no sister." I am now in a difficult position regarding this severance for which I have found no reason. I am afraid of the punishment of Allah for one who cuts off family ties, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Anyone who cuts off relationship from his nearest relatives will not enter Paradise.لا يدخل الجنة قاطع رحم
Sunan Abi Dawud 1696Sahih (Al-Albani)
. I ask Allah, then you, to inform me: Does this hadith apply to me or to him? And what is your ruling on his action?

A : If the situation is as you have described, then the mentioned hadith does not apply to you. We ask Allah to guide your brother to maintain his family ties, and to reward you for your effort and diligence in trying to reconnect with him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
